Young footballers ready for Red Bull training

CAY HIL—Young soccer players from Risc Takers Football Club are excited by the prospect of attend the Red Bull Training Camp at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex June 30 to July 5. Red Bull a team in the United States Major League Soccer.

As four coaches from Red Bull will be hosting the camp organized locally by St. Louis Stars of St. Martin and Risc Takers of St. Maarten, the athletes are hoping to make an impression and perhaps sign a pro-contract in the future.

Djai Essed understands the importance of camps run by professional teams. He attended a camp in the Netherlands organized by Ajax three years ago. Now at age 16 he has been invited to train with the Dutch team Dordrecht this summer. The centerback plays for the Risc Takers and for Milton Peters College in the recently completed School Tournament smiles.

"I'm the biggest guy on the team, no one pushes me around. I get a lot of touches on the ball." He continued, "It's great to showcase your ability in front of scouts. Just thinking about it makes you play better."

Thirteen-year old Charlie Taylor is a bit nervous. The defender who played for Caribbean International Academy and placed second in the School competition is not sure what to expect.

"I guess the training will be hard, but I'm not scared of that," said Taylor. "I just want to do my best with those guys watching. It is important you know."

Jaeremi Drijvers is a 14 year old striker. He helped his school MPC win the School U-15 Championship.

"I scored four goals in that game," he looked down with a frown. "I was a bit off my game. I usually score seven in a game."

Drijvers wants to be a professional soccer player. "I know I have to work hard to make it to the pros but I think I can do it." Saturday afternoon, after his big championship game, he and his teammates were watching the European Champions League final together.

Fifteen year old Navin Premkumar is a Real Madrid fan. He has been playing football since he was eight years old.

"I play left midfield. It is a great position. I see a lot of the ball and I get to create plays," explained Premkumar. He only joined the Risc Takers FC two months ago but is already enjoy the club and team mates.

"I don't know much about this Red Bull thing. The guys say it is going to be fun and a great experience. I can't wait."

Matthew Dookie is a 13 year old utility player. "Wherever the coach needs me, that's where I play." He continued, "I don't care where they put me, I just want to play."

Dookie usually ends up in mid-field. He also played for CIA in the final of the school competition and already has 10-years experience on the pitch.

"I want to go to the camp just to see what my level is. I want to know what other people think. If I have a chance to move up to the next level?"

Naeco Drijvers, Jaeremi cousin, is another member of the Risc Takers FC. "I'm hoping to learn new skills and sharpen the ones I have," said Naeco. "I want to reach the next level and just see how far I can go."

The camp is open to boys age 11 and under, 13 and under and 15 and under. There are also opening for girls.

The cost to register for the training followed by exhibition games is US $100. Athletes will each receive a ball, a bag, a t-shirt and a certificate of participation.

The deadline to register is today. Registration forms are available online at
