School Soccer starts break with big scores

schoolBELVEDERE--Brandon Lee Potmis scored three goals and had an assist as he led

St. Dominic High School to victory in the 15 and Under division of the Interscholastic Soccer Tournament at Cruyff Court, Saturday. Organised by St. Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation, the School Tournament is in its 20th year.

Saturday, St. Dominic defeated the Combined Schools Team 7-2 after jumping out to a 6-0 first half lead. Leon Benfield netted both goals for Combined.

9 and Under

Jan Lucas van der Plas and Kevin Schuurman each scored three goals as they propelled Learning Unlimited past Sister Regina in the 9 and Under division. Learning Unlimited won 6-4 after enjoying a 6-2 half time lead. Amaru Bute netted four for Sister Regina.

7 and Under

The 7 and Under division featured a Sister Magda clash. The school's Rockstar team faced their Greenboys. The Greenboys turned out to be not so green as they scored three times in the first half and three in the second for a 6-1 victory. Salim Fleming led the attack with three goals.

Joel Chin Ten Koei defended goal for Greenboys and stopped Rockstars cold. The stars one score was an own goal.

13 and Under

In the 13 and Under division the two teams from Milton Peters College faced off. United went up against the undefeated Stars and won 5-4. Jaeremi Drijvers led the winning effort with three goals and an assist.

Kael Richards was good for three goals and an assist for Stars.

The Stars took a 3-1 early lead but as the game neared regulation time United tied the match at 4-4. With just seconds left to play, Drijvers managed to put one more past the keeper for the upset.

Vivik Sabrani scored four times as Caribbean International Academy cruised past

St. Dominic High School 6-0 in the 13 and Under division. St. Dominic tried out several keepers during the match but none could stop CIA.

Champions League

Jeahru Richardson scored twice and team mate Diaro Forsythe was good for one and had three assists as Sister Magda squeezed past Leonald Conner in the Champions League. Sister Magda won 5-4.

Sister Magda jumped out to a 2-0 advantage and then answered every time Leonald Conner netted a ball.

Davyde Descollines scored the first goal for Leonald Conner and was followed by

Marlon Lopez Guzman, Durvane Solomon and Charles Geraldo.

Sister Regina bested Hillside Christian 3-1. Isaiah Snijders scored first for Sister Regina and went on to net the game winner in the second half for the victory. Andrew Ford netted the lone ball for Hillside.

On May 4, the game between Sister Magda against Sister Regina will determine who will face Leonald Conner in the Champions League final June 1.

Girls

Aichelle Peters scored three and Nacirfa Drijvers was good for two and an assist as they led Sister Regina to a 7-0 clobbering of Sister Magda in the last game of the round.

The semi-finals in the Girls category will feature Sister Regina against Hillside Christian and Leonald Conner meets Sister Magda.

The School Tournament will now pause for Carnival. Action resumes May 4.
