Be a Childfest Star

~ Singing and dancing auditions on February 13 ~

So you can sing and you’ve got some great dance moves? Then here’s a chance to do your thing at one of the greatest child focussed events in St. Maarten.

All dancers can sign up for Childfest in Motion, a dance competition which will be the newest addition to the line-up of activities for the fourth annual Childfest Family Fun Day scheduled for Sunday, March 14, at Port de Plaisance.

Young dancers interested in competing can attend auditions at Port de Plaisance on Saturday, February 13. Dancers will compete in two categories: ages eight – 12 and ages 13 – 17.

The semi finals will be held on Sunday, February 28, at Port de Plaisance and the finals on the main stage during the Childfest family fun day on Sunday, March 14.

Participants can compete in any dance style: hip hop, ballet, classical or otherwise, however, no vulgar dance moves will be allowed. Youths will each get four minutes to present their dance style to spectators and judges.

A winner and a first and second runner up will be selected in each category. Each finalist will receive a trophy, and the winners will be presented with the grand trophies and some attractive prizes. The dance competition is being coordinated by dance trainer Kelly Stacey and is expected to be as big a hit as the Childfest Star singing competition.

Childfest coordinators say they are always looking for ways and means of improving the event and of giving youngsters an avenue to display their talents. Adding a dancing competition to the event was seen as a way of giving youngsters, who can move, a way of showing what they can do on stage and be recognised for it.

Those with singing skills can sign up for the second annual Childfest Star competition. Auditions will also be held on Saturday, February 13, at Port de Plaisance.

The Childfest Star competition, another main aspect of the Childfest Family Fun Day line-up, will also be held in two categories: children ages eight – 12 and children ages 13 – 17.

The semi finals will be held on Sunday, February 28. The finalists will go head to head in the finals on Sunday, March 14, for a chance to be crowned Childfest Stars. The finals will take place on the main stage at the spacious Port de Plaisance property during the fourth annual Childfest Family Fun Day. A winner and first and second runners up will be chosen in each category. All finalists will be presented with a trophy and the winners and runners up will receive a large trophy and some great prizes.

The auditions and semi finals will be judged by musical extraordinaire Helen Hart and the talented Miguel Alexander. Childfest Star was developed as part of the annual Childfest Family Fun day to give St. Maarten’s talented youngsters a chance to shine, display their talent and bolster their confidence.
